Therapy Stops at the Neck! Sound Doesn't. | Dr. Gigi Turner | Singing Bowls of the Rockies
Before dedicating her practice to sound, Dr. Gigi Turner spent 14 years as a licensed psychotherapist and 8 years teaching in higher education. She arrived in the United States at 29 without speaking English and went on to earn her doctorate in psychology, a milestone she jokes lets her analyze her anxiety in two languages. In clinical practice she noticed a persistent pattern: clients understood their histories deeply, yet their bodies stayed braced, shoulders worn like earrings, carrying a chronic nervous system tension that insight alone could not release.
In this episode of The Tap Intuit Podcast, host Ravyn Robinson-Barco sits down with Dr. Turner to explore her path from cognitive psychotherapy to vibrational sound healing. She recalls the skepticism she brought to her first session with mentor Greg Hunter, and the emotional release and full-body lightness that led her into a three-year apprenticeship. Dr. Turner explains why therapy focused “above the neck” can leave the body behind, and how sound complements work by helping an overstimulated nervous system settle so the body’s rest-and-digest response can return.
The conversation turns practical with her Orange and Blue Plate framework, a simple metaphor for daily nervous system care. Dr. Turner and Ravyn examine the conditioning that ties our worth to constant doing, and why caregivers, professionals, and high achievers find it so hard to receive care without feeling they owe something back. Along the way, she shares stories from nearly 2,000 sound baths, from corporate conference halls to cave chambers deep underground.
This episode is an invitation to interrupt everyday stress and discover the medicine that happens when nothing is expected of you except to lie down and receive.
